The Mile is a fun distance. Just short enough to where a significant percentage of people can actually run it fast for their demographic, and long enough to feel accomplished afterwards. It’s a distance where if someone says “I just ran a mile to get here” or they “just ran a mile after work”, most normal people would think that is an accomplishment.
But you are not normal people. You want to see just how fast you can run a mile. And probably even preferring to find yourself somewhere between the advanced and elite column of this table:

Running a mile as fast you physically can makes you feel like an apex predator at the top of food chain. The ability to go the distance at a pace 99% of the population cannot is a feeling like no-other.
